Victor Ikawa is an environmentalist and a marketer. He has over 18 years’ experience in marketing strategy and market planning; market research; brand planning, monitoring, and evaluation; communications; and media. He has been described by colleagues as a leader and strategic marketing expert who possesses a breadth of knowledge seldom found in professionals of his kind.
Victor is the author of An Introduction to African Youth, a highly acclaimed book that offers a unique and insightful perspective on the youth of Africa. His book has been called “a scholarly masterpiece” by academics, and credited with putting “stereotypes about Africa to shame.” He is currently working on another title that talks about the African middle class.
He has a twin passion for urban and environmental planning in which he holds a PhD from Kenyatta University. As a professor, his teaching interests include Urban planning, research methods, Forestry, biodiversity, GIS, and marketing geography. He currently works for Safaricom as the Head of Research and Consumer Insights, helping to define the company’s path, and monitoring its performance.
In addition to his work in marketing strategy, he conducts research on a variety of topics related to marketing. He is also a frequent speaker at conferences like Qual360 NA and the AMRA’s Africa Forum.
Victor also serves as the Vice Chairman of the National Scrabble Association in Kenya. He holds degrees from the Kenyatta University, the University of Nairobi, and Moi University. Victor, his wife, and his three children live in Nairobi, Kenya.
